Frustrated Computer Business Owner Professional

Agencies are scrambling to figure out how to deliver services via the web during the pandemic. Telehealth represents an option that has clear benefits for keeping providers and clients safe. The government, by issuing waivers and reducing restrictions, is very much on board with us managing our cases through teleconferencing.

As the coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to spread, Congress is planning to release a massive $8.3 billion spending bill to address the pandemic’s global impact.

benefits of using an EHR specific to mental health

When the electronic health record (EHR) software market first emerged, few solutions were designed specifically for behavioral and mental health professionals. The general medical EHRs available at the time failed to address the workflows and billing for behavioral health practices, which were considered unique. For example,

Behavioral health practitioners face many challenges managing the clinical and administrative demands involved in delivering quality care. Just keeping up with required paperwork guidelines can be overwhelming, let alone jumping through the all the hoops insurers set up to hinder timely reimbursement. With ever-growing requirements for accountability, providers can find it hard to focus on what they value most – the opportunity to use their skills to help others.

While some industries remain slow to adopt new technology, the healthcare industry is fully embracing it. In fact, studies show that nearly 9 in 10 (86%) of office-based physicians are using electronic health record (EHR) systems to track all aspects of patient care. Over the years, EHR software has significantly changed not only patient record documentation, storage, and retrieval, but ultimately the level of care provided. When used appropriately, EHR software can serve as a valuable tool to improve the quality of care and ultimately result in better outcomes.

The Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) requires providers to transition from a volume-based care model to a value-based one or face significant financial penalties and even reputational harm. With the end of the 2019 MIPS Reporting Period and the start of the 2020 Reporting Period, it’s clear that the stakes have been raised yet again making it even harder to avoid significant penalties, further increasing the stress, burden and financial risk for a healthcare practice like yours. To be specific, failure to comply or earn enough points for the 2019 reporting period will result in an automatic 7% penalty on every Medicare Part B claim paid in 2021 – this equates to a minimum of a $6,300 per provider hit to the bottom line, and the penalty will increase to 9% and a minimum of $8,100 per provider for the 2020 reporting period.

Being a passionate and effective helper for individuals who have mental health challenges can take a personal toll on the therapist. It’s no surprise that therapist burnout is a pervasive problem for those in behavioral health professions.

SYRACUSE, N.Y., Wis., November 5th, 2019 (Newswire.com) - The report published by Fortune Business Insights indicates that video communication is one of the major drivers transforming the work of healthcare organizations. The market for telemedicine solutions is projected to reach $266.8 billion by 2026. The ClinicTracker team became keenly aware of such trends when many of their users began to ask for an effective telemedicine solution that would fully integrate into their clinic management software.

I’m Michael Gordon, a clinical psychologist, clinic administrator, and clinical researcher. I’ve been producing these Facebook Live sessions because I have always been interested in the idea of using data and implementing workflows that make clinical life easier and, most importantly, improve patient care. It’s those interests that led me to develop an EHR called ClinicTracker.

cbt group therapy

Research suggests that cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) can be effective in treating a broad array of conditions, including depression, anxiety disorders, substance abuse, relationship problems, eating disorders, and severe mental illness. CBT has also been used with patients experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), eating disorders, and opioid addiction. Research suggests that CBT can be at least as effective in producing significant improvement in functioning and quality of life as other forms of therapy or psychiatric medications, according to the American Psychological Association (APA).

social media is bad for mental health

Look across a restaurant or any other place where people are gathered and you’ll see almost everyone staring at their phones. Some are skimming tweets and messaging friends, while others are surfing YouTube videos or posting photos on Instagram. And if you could peer into homes and apartments, chances are you’d also see those occupants engaged in the world of social media.

How Your EHR Can Keep Clinical Staff Reasonably Content and Productive

The content of this article has been adapted from a Facebook Live discussion with Dr. Michael Gordon.* Like many of you, I didn’t get much training in graduate school about how to manage a clinic and handle everything from HR to creating workflows to billing to supervision to marketing – you name it. I had to figure it all out without much formal education on these matters at all. Given my background and personality, the one thing I knew for sure was that I didn’t want to make administrative decisions based on the latest fad or what felt right or what one of my staff thought was the only way to go at the moment. I wanted those decisions to be based, to the extent possible, on good data. Put another way, I wanted to fly by the seat of my data, not by the seat of my pants.

real time ehr customization

As healthcare practices grow increasingly comfortable with, and reliant on, the many benefits of digital operations, users want to have the ability to customize their experience the way they can with other applications. An app for your favorite pizza chain, for example, lets you create a pizza with just the toppings you like. And you can tell your bank to pay your mortgage on the first of every month, your car loan on the 15th, and send 15 percent of your paycheck to a savings account in a different bank. Similarly, the most helpful EHRs offer the flexibility and ease to create forms and reports when and how you need them.

mental health agency end of year reporting

The calendar has rolled over to 2019, so out with the old and in with the new, right? Not so fast. Just because office hours are back to normal and the piles of holiday treats have disappeared doesn’t mean you’ve finished your 2018 work. For behavioral healthcare practices, this time of year typically requires careful attention to year-end reports as annual insurance contracts end and compliance records and grant reports come due.

ClinicTracker introduces a powerful new feature to its Custom Form Builder that lets clinicians create or customize templates for progress notes.

SYRACUSE, N.Y., December 21, 2018 (Newswire.com) - Rather than having to make do with whatever form an EHR provides, counselors now can fashion them exactly as they see fit, either by adjusting an existing form or generating an entirely new one. Without the aid of programmers, they can create highly sophisticated and personalized notes that speed note writing and guarantee compliance. Customizable options include drop-down lists, date pickers, links to data from other forms, and many other features that improve the process.

Integration and Interoperability

ClinicTracker, a mental health EHR and practice management system, recently completed an electronic health information exchange (HIE) integration with its cloud communications partner.

SYRACUSE, N.Y., December 20, 2018 (Newswire.com) - While ClinicTracker already offers cloud faxing and Direct Secure Messaging, users can now connect with HIEs directly from within the ClinicTracker EHR. The HIE integration enables mental health practices and outside healthcare providers to exchange electronic patient documents such as medical history forms, lab results, medication lists, and treatment plans in a HIPAA-compliant manner.

mental health practice and patient centered technology

Steady advances in technology have simplified our lives to a degree most of us could never have imagined only a few years ago. From our smartphones we can accomplish any number of tasks that used to require us to travel to a store or office, stand in line, and interact with someone else. Now you can tap a few buttons to deposit checks or pay bills online. Many restaurants let you order and pay for your food over the web. Need a ride somewhere? Use a ride-sharing app and a driver will pick you up in no time.

The world of behavioral health is steadily following the rest of the marketplace in promoting and transacting its services via the web. The signs of that trend are everywhere: the growing acceptance of telepsychiatry, the proliferation of websites that offer screening services for mental health disorders, and the vast number of digital platforms or portals that provide referral information or appointment registration.

Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) offers hope for clients with severe and persistent mental illness, especially those who have not responded well to other treatments. ACT’s team-based, interdisciplinary approach may include medical treatment as well as vocational assistance, rehabilitation, family education, life skills training, and community support. The goal is to provide a bundle of coordinated services that fully address a patient’s wide-ranging needs.

Group Therapy Blog

Managing group therapy appointments requires an EHR that understands all the nuances involved in running these kinds of interventions. While it’s certainly efficient for one provider to see more than one client at a time, those benefits can fall off quickly if your EHR isn’t smart about how to schedule, chart, bill, and track group activities.

free ehr vs paid ehr

Whether you’re looking to create graphics, organize data, or manage projects, chances are there’s someone who will offer a free app that claims to do the trick. Some companies even tout introductory apps for functions as complicated as those required to run a behavioral health agency. Although the prospect of not having to pay for software is always alluring, you will find that most of these apps would fail to provide you what you need both in terms of features and support. In our view, you should be aware of the following:

mental health billing fraud

A suburban Chicago doctor was indicted last month, accused of filing nearly $1 million in fraudulent health insurance claims. From 2008 to 2013, the doctor allegedly used some patients’ names without their knowledge and submitted claims for scans that were never performed, the Chicago Sun-Times reported. In one case, the doctor allegedly fabricated a seven-page medical record for a follow-up exam during an office visit in which the doctor only refilled a prescription.
